Educated at the Missionary school, Kamehameha IV âmost of all things disliked the Mission.â A trip abroad at age 15 opened his eyes. England and France treated him well, but in America he faced racism.
At 20 Kamehameha IV became king and dealt with the growing influence of Americans settling in Hawaiâi. He worked to improve healthcare and education, but failed to reach a treaty with the United States to avert the threat of annexation.
